The trinity of evil

http://crooksandliars.com/david-neiwert/rush-limbaugh-master-eliminationism – Between Rush, Beck and Bill O, someone (or more than one) is going to end up getting killed in this country because of their insane hate filled tirades on the air. I guess one person already was killed because of Bill in the last year (Dr. Tiller). But I’m pretty sure it’s going to go much farther when they incite a bunch of nuts to try and overthrow the government. Of course they will deny that and say whoever might try to do so is crazy, but anyone with half a brain can see that they are part of what is going to push such crazies over the edge.

http://videocafe.crooksandliars.com/heather/glenn-greenwald-lieberman-and-bayh-enrichi – I hated Lieberman a long time ago, this is just helping to drive home why.

http://www.lrb.co.uk/v31/n20/david-runciman/how-messy-it-all-is – Anyone surprised by this? We long ago abandoned the idea of people being taxed based upon what they make. Now you’re taxed on if you have enough money to lobby to make sure you don’t have to pay.

http://scienceblogs.com/pharyngula/2009/10/where_do_people_get_those_craz.php – Wow, Geller actually served a purpose for once.

http://scienceblogs.com/insolence/2009/10/data_weeps_does_brent_spiner_have_anti-v.php – Ugh… Just one more reason I don’t want to know what celebs think. It is sad that someone who was on a sci-fi show would buy into anti-vax bullshit.

http://crooksandliars.com/susie-madrak/why-arent-people-media-pushing-unempl – Gotta love the party of No. I wish Americans would pay attention to this shit and not vote for republicans in the next election.

http://rationallyspeaking.blogspot.com/2009/10/cable-news-who-cares.html – If only people would realize that they need to vote for stuff to change. And not just vote during the primary elections every 4 years but at every election. And it would also help if people would stop watching the fucking TV to figure out who to vote for and actually learn what a candidate stands for. “Oh that TV ad said he’s a child molester, it must be true because it was paid for by the republican mom’s against child molestation”… And I’m going to disagree with Massimo about Olbermann. Yeah I like Olbermann so you can say that pollutes my view, but at least he tries to be fairly honest about what he is doing and what he stands for, unlike the clowns at fox.

http://scienceblogs.com/pharyngula/2009/10/oh_give_it_a_rest_bill.php – How did I not watch this show sooner?

http://potomac9499.wordpress.com/2009/10/28/why-probabilities-are-decieving/ – What are the odds? Pretty fucking good.. I’m going to make sure I throw that in someones face when they try to tell me that something is a miracle.

Too much stuff

Sorry I haven’t posted in a while. Been way too busy/lazy. I have about 1000 items saved up in my feed reader but I don’t think I’m going to bother with most of them. Here are just a few items from today that caught my eye.

http://gizmodo.com/5382269/earth-and-jupiter-captured-in-the-same-photograph-taken-from-mars – Carl would have loved this I’m going to guess.

http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/15/finland-says-that-1mb-broadband-is-a-right-not-a-privilege/ – I figured out where I’m going to move eventually. Health care, high levels of rationality, high level of income, and now this… come on.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/belief/2009/oct/08/atheism-religion-class-science – I really wish more people could understand the closing statement. You thinking that you have the right to not have your childish views challenged does not make me an asshole.

http://scienceblogs.com/pharyngula/2009/10/yet_another_example_of_religio.php – She looks ok to me. What’s the big deal?

http://crooksandliars.com/john-amato/lindsey-graham-gets-teabagged-climate-c – lol. If it weren’t a fucking human rights violation, I would say these people should not be allowed anywhere intelligence is required.

http://friendlyatheist.com/2009/10/15/a-new-kind-of-christian-book-burning/ – Finally a book burning I can get behind… oh wait no I can’t because burning books is fucking nuts. This is why I can’t stand religion. “If it doesn’t agree with us, BURN IT!”

http://scienceblogs.com/pharyngula/2009/10/darwinopterus_and_mosaic_modul.php – Fucking science and it’s transitional fossils! I can’t wait for the day when everyone finally acknowledges that evolution is fact and stops believing in fairy tales.

http://www.oliverwillis.com/2009/10/14/dow-hits-10000-fox-news-gives-bush-credit/ – What the fuck? Seriously. I really wish there were a way to get them off the air.

http://www.theipu.com/2009/10/college-no-place-for-kissing.html – I don’t enjoy watching two people all over each other in public but… a peck on the cheek results in this? Go religion!

http://videocafe.crooksandliars.com/heather/mary-landrieu-i-think-when-people-hear-pub – I really wish people would call them republicans and not dems, because that is what they are.

http://crooksandliars.com/nicole-belle/its-all-framing-ny-times-admits-shutt – Still trying to figure out why we didn’t just do medicare for all or something like that…

http://crooksandliars.com/john-amato/harry-reid-worst-leader-ever – *Sigh*… I hate Lieberman. Always have and always will. And why the fuck do we need 60 votes again? Is there a reason that these people won’t grow fucking spines?

http://bayareahouston.blogspot.com/2009/10/america-can-learn-lot-from-texas.html – A Texas. What a fucking joke they are. Lets not forget their complete failure in educating children by trying to constantly sneak creationist bullshit into the curriculum. And of course the great idea of secession.

That’s all for now. As an aside, firefoxes spellchecker is a piece of shit.

We got spam!

Thanks for letting me know miah. I turned on the spam filter, let me know if it causes any problems for anyone.

I also turned it on for all the other blogs and cleaned up the spam.

The deintellectualization of this country, or how we became so stupid

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNhEKJdbQ9c – Keith Olbermann tells it like it is. Exactly when did it become so acceptable to be dumb in this country? We seem to go out of our way to elect people who have no ability to govern and we’re proud of that? Why? We follow crazy people as if they are prophets. We take whatever we hear on TV at face value and don’t bother putting thought into anything anymore. The media is partly to blame for that, they seem to be hell bend on telling both side of a story even when there is only one side to a story, the other “side” is a bunch of crazy nuts who should be on medication. No, vaccines do not cause autism, Jenny McCarthy. Yes it sucks your son has autism, that does not give you the right to run around scaring parents and killing children indirectly because of your lies. No, Obama is not from Kenya and he is not trying to kill your grandma, Fox “News”. But the people of this country are just as much to blame. Intelligence and reason have taken a back seat to anti-intellectualism and faith.

Now I’m not saying that the majority of people in this country fall for the shenanigans of fox, but they do still fall for a lot of other bullshit that no reasonable person should fall for. How many people go see a chiropractor? If people would take the time to look into the founding principles of chiropractic they would run the fuck away from it as fast as they can. Homeopathy? It’s fucking water and people buy into it. I’ll admit I fall for stupid stuff too, everyone does once in a while, it’s called being human. But I try very hard not to. And I sure as hell don’t praise it when other people do. I also try my hardest to educate myself about as much as I possible can.

This country and most countries in Europe have become so hell bent on respecting each others crazy bullshit views that no one wants to call anyone out on their crazy bullshit. That is dangerous. That is how goofy ass people like Michele Bachmann get elected. That is how we can have a whole month of people shouting that Obama is Hitler at fake town hall meetings. People need to start calling each other out on insane ideas that have no base in reality. It’s one thing to suppose something as an exercise, it’s another thing entirely to base your life on made up bullshit.

On another note, I’m sorry I haven’t posted this week. I have about 100 items I need to put up and that’s going to take a while.

Damn you team foundation server!

I’d just like to say that the team foundation server team that made the 2008 version are either idiots or they simply do not care about providing a robust installation experience. I cannot get this thing to install on windows server 2008 with sql server 2008. Even after setting up a x86 version of windows specifically for it, even after slipstreaming SP1 in as I found out was needed (why?). I’m just about ready to give up on it and hope that 2010 comes out soon. Apparently it actually works with x64 windows.

Now for some fun stuff.

http://thelinguist.blogs.com/how_to_learn_english_and/2009/09/children-in-the-uk-unlikely-to-learn-languages-at-school.html – I’m shocked. I really do enjoy Steve’s thoughts on language learning. He has some ideas I don’t agree with that he refuses to let go of, but on this specific topic I think he hits the nail on the head. For whatever reason people insist on continuing with the same tried and failed techniques to learning another language. My theory is that it is simply the established teacher don’t want to rock the boat because they know they won’t be around if they do. Teachers are not needed for the most part, simply someone to ask questions to once in a while and maybe suggest materials for you to use. Beyond that everything is the learners responsibility. Reading/Listening to things you find interesting and not crap a teacher finds interesting tends to make for a much more effective use of time when trying to learn a language. I also find the idea of testing people to be hilarious. How exactly do you test someones foreign language skills? From my experiences the tests are pointless. Memorize some stuff and regurgitate it.

http://gretachristina.typepad.com/greta_christinas_weblog/2009/09/atheism-and-patience.html – I rarely bother to argue with people because of these reasons. For whatever reason trying to argue with someone that doesn’t bother to understand anything beyond what they have had beaten into their heads since childhood tends to be pointless.

http://www.cynical-c.com/?p=14113 – lol

http://scienceblogs.com/pharyngula/2009/09/megadittoes.php – Really? I can’t wait to see this whole thing. It will make me sad but I’ll still laugh. How can people not bother to investigate anything? He’s a Marxist… but I don’t know what that means…. wow

http://www.heavingdeadcats.com/2009/09/04/atheism-at-a-glance-bbc-style/ – I agree with her reasons but I would say my main reason is that it promotes ignorance. Why ask questions if the answer is always the same? It simply promotes laziness of the mind.

http://www.cynical-c.com/?p=14107 – He is really good at talking to people. It’s too bad most of the tea baggers probably didn’t bother to listen to what he was saying and continued with their misguided preconceived notions.

http://rationallyspeaking.blogspot.com/2009/09/logic-of-skepticism.html – I love Massimo. I suggest you grab any podcasts from the skeptics guide with him on. They are really fun to listen to.

http://friendlyatheist.com/2009/09/04/the-world-of-conservative-christian-homeschooling-part-1/ – This is scary shit. But it’s about what I expected. It’s so sad that she can’t spend the extra money to actually provide her kids with the correct answers so they might learn something…

http://www.randi.org/site/index.php/swift-blog/698-my-admittedly-acerbic-observation.html – The second quote is so very true.

http://scienceblogs.com/pharyngula/2009/09/the_mantle_is_far_far_greater.php – So much for getting myself some magic underwear.

http://friendlyatheist.com/2009/09/03/anti-discrimination-ordinance-rejected-in-indiana-town/

http://scienceblogs.com/pharyngula/2009/09/why_are_texans_so_unpatriotic.php – What a sad state. Of course it’s not just Texas that has this problem but honestly, telling kids to try hard in school = communism? What the fuck is wrong with people in this country? Oh that’s right, they’re fucking racist and can’t handle a black president.

http://www.newser.com/off-the-grid/post/263/blame-america-and-jesus-for-jaycee-dugard-kidnapping.html?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=90309 – I love that people who in my eyes are about as un-American as you can get, will scream at you that you’re not an American because you don’t subscribe to their brand of magical thinking.

http://www.cynical-c.com/?p=14102 – The end kills me.

http://scienceblogs.com/pharyngula/2009/09/stay_classy_ben_stein.php – I wonder how much lower this man can go before no one gives him any attention.

http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/badastronomy/2009/09/03/skeptical-passion/ – I wish more people would get into the skeptical field. Of course it requires you to actually think but hey it’s not too bad.

http://scienceblogs.com/pharyngula/2009/09/here_comes_science.php – I love the retards that still can’t get over science existing. Look out science is trying to destroy my religion! No, dumbass, logic and reason are destroying your fantasy.

http://friendlyatheist.com/2009/09/03/interview-with-michael-baigent-author-of-racing-toward-armageddon/ – I think I might have to read this.

http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/badastronomy/2009/09/03/mars-overload/ – cool

http://www.atheistmedia.com/2009/09/james-randi-interview-april-2008.html – Randi is the best.

http://www.randi.org/site/index.php/swift-blog/697-a-sea-monster-is-born.html – Oh how sad it is that this more than likely will turn into a sea monster.

http://www.atheistmedia.com/2009/09/fox-news-obama-indoctrinating-kids.html – How low can fox go? No one knows. I love that hey don’t get it. This president, unlike the last one, is for education and advancing this country. Apparently fox wants this country to get dumber. Oh no Obama is going to make the kids Commies! LOOK OUT!!!!!!!! Where is Beck on t his one? The level of conspiracy theory bullshit here is great. Look at the horrible things Obama is trying to do, fix the fuck up of the last guy. Oh noes! As always I must remind people that I’m not a fan of Obama but at least I don’t make up baseless shit about him.

http://friendlyatheist.com/2009/09/02/have-you-been-discriminated-against-because-of-your-atheism/ – I’m not sure yet.

http://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/?p=1222 – What is this countries obsession with “fair and balanced” when there is only one side, the right side. The other side is filled with crazy people that need a boogyman to go after so they can feel better about their shitty lives. Your kid has autism? I’m sorry that really sucks and is horrible, but don’t go around KILLING other kids with your lies. Kids who don’t get vaccinated are getting sick and either dieing or getting other kids sick who cannot get vaccinated (for various reasons) who then die. The numbers are still fairly low but if the media continues to support this farce it is only going to get worse.

http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/badastronomy/2009/09/02/our-galactic-twin/ – Space is so cool.

http://scienceblogs.com/pharyngula/2009/09/i_get_email_41.php – This anti-intellectual “value” in this country really makes me sad. Why do people feel it is ok to be dumb? Why not go out and learn something and make yourself smarter? Why be so scared of that?

http://scienceblogs.com/pharyngula/2009/09/like_ripe_fruit_ready_for_the.php – This is why critical thinking is important. Does that 20% return sound too good to be true? Guess what, it probably is.

http://www.theipu.com/2009/09/perfect-word-of-god-updated.html – Don’t worry bigots I’m sure you can still get a version that supports your backwards thinking.

http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/badastronomy/2009/09/02/psychic-fail-again/ – Do these people really think they’re going to fool anyone? Nothing like retro-dicting. Yeah that’s convincing me that you’re psychic!

http://www.newyorker.com/arts/critics/books/2009/09/07/090907crbo_books_crain – Long. Gets boring after a while but is still interesting in general.

http://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/?p=1173 – Worthless treatments are not harmless. I wish people would get that idea through their heads. If you are putting off real treatment because you have some herbs, you’re harming yourself. And if you’re selling these products, you are evil, or at the least uneducated and stupid.

http://www.heavingdeadcats.com/2009/09/02/justifying-our-false-beliefs/ – Sadly people can’t get over their beliefs because of their ego and their parents/grandparents/etc egos. To admit you are wrong about something indoctrinated from childhood would mean you have to admit your parents, grandparents, other family members, other people who helped in your brain washing, are wrong. That is very difficult for people to do.

http://potomac9499.wordpress.com/2009/09/01/a-few-thoughts-on-herding-cats/ – You can’t herd cats.

http://thirteenpointseven.wordpress.com/2009/09/01/debunking-proofs-of-gods-existence/ – Personally I give up on trying to convince people. They don’t want to listen but for the rest of us…

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUukjX-Nee0&feature=related – My hero.

http://www.atheistmedia.com/2009/09/governor-bobby-jindal-using-taxpayer.html – Anyone that runs on the god ticket should NEVER be elected. I don’t care what your personal beliefs are but as soon as you evoke god in your campaign I know exactly what you’re going to do. PISS AWAY TAX PAYER MONEY IN A CLEAR VIOLATION OF SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE! Seriously what is wrong with this man? Does he not realize how wrong what he did is.

All kinds of goodies

I’ll admit I’m lazy so I’m not going to write comments for these because I’ve left this post sit too long and added too much to it. So just go read :p Thanks to everyone I snagged links from.

Sen. Kennedy…

http://www.cynical-c.com/?p=14057 – I hope someone just as awesome takes his place.

Also the republicans blaming Kennedy the other day for their unwillingness to go along with the health care reform is fucking pathetic. You assholes are paid off by the insurance companies. Just admit that already please. And stop lying the the American public. It’s just pathetic.

http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/badastronomy/2009/08/26/antivax-smackdown-albietz-edition/ – I’m still trying to figure out why people don’t like vaccinations… is it the needles?

Awesome

http://www.atheistmedia.com/2009/08/ask-expert-will-technology-allow-us-to.html – I can’t wait for those images.

Australia

http://slacktivist.typepad.com/slacktivist/2009/08/land-of-oz.html – This made me laugh. It’s fun how people who are supposedly experts on a book, one book, don’t even know what is in it.

I forgot some stuff….

http://www.comicblasphemy.com/?p=140 – lol

http://crooksandliars.com/david-neiwert/now-birthers-are-demanding-know-was – what is with republicans and other peoples dicks?

http://friendlyatheist.com/2009/08/25/are-these-atheist-bus-ads-offensive-too/ – I wonder if that bus driver would be offended. If not then she is a bitch, but I’m pretty sure we already knew that.

http://40yearoldatheist.com/the-illinois-family-institutes-attack-on-the-friendly-atheist-equates-to-cocking-a-loaded-gun/2009/08/ – More on the silly Illinois family institute thing.

I have another comic I want to post but the site seems to be down at the moment.

We are dumb, but you all knew that

http://scienceblogs.com/pharyngula/2009/08/the_educatedignorant_divide.php – I think that graph is funny assuming I’m reading it correctly. I do however think PZ is missing an important point. You can get all the new lab equipment you want but you can’t make kids learn. They have to want to do that on their own. And unfortunately in this country kids are discouraged from taking an interest in science and math because their peers and parents want them to be playing sports and not to be nerds. As if being a star athlete is somehow the best way to live your life.

http://friendlyatheist.com/2009/08/24/suspended-iowa-bus-driver-back-at-work-today/ – I hope she gets another bus and gets fired for refusing the drive it. I don’t care what your personal views are, you are hired to drive a bus, drive the damn bus. If I were a bus driver and I had to drive one with some crazy ultra religious message on it I would drive it because it’s my fucking job.

http://www.heavingdeadcats.com/2009/08/25/i-have-2-dogs-but-neither-is-god-im-sure/ – This is great. Somehow I get the feeling if you insisted you have a dog when you clearly don’t, everyone would consider you to be insane. Yet as soon as religion is attached to whatever you believe it’s completely normal. Where is the disconnect for most people on this?

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/25/science/25tier.html?_r=2&ref=science – This is interesting to me. I wonder how I would go about getting a job at this place where I get to screw with kids heads…

http://www.theness.com/neurologicablog/?p=818 – the first couple of lines sum up all the ‘dieting’ advice anyone needs. Yet for some reason people buy into so much bullshit.

http://friendlyatheist.com/2009/08/25/help-maine-keep-same-sex-marriage-legal/ – Spread the word. People who feel compelled to force their narrow world view on others need to be stopped. No, two people that love each other getting married does not destroy your freedom you crazy assholes (and yes people have actually said that about gay marriage).
